Since the publication of Job's Body in 1987, Deane Juhan has been a strong influence in the bodywork world. I'm very happy to report that Deane will be teaching a three day class on Connective Tissue.
I first brought Deane to the northwest in 1988 and 1989 for classes he taught on Orcas island. I was surprised at how many persons traveled from afar to be there with Deane. Job's Body had created quite a stir in the world of bodywork...offering a much deeper understanding and questioning of what we were working with. Deane had gone out to the edge of anatomy and physiology and invited us all to journey there with him. Many courageous schools started requiring his book as a primary textbook.
Since then Deane has continued to break new ground and to open up new possibilities for the manual therapies. He has also been at the forefront of legitimizing the bodywork modalities to medical practitioners and the hard sciences. I promise you that Deane will stretch your minds and will
welcome the opportunity for you to do the same for him.
This is also a hands-on class, much of which is derived from Deane's many years as a Trager(R) Instructor. Those classes I took from him in the late 80's opened me up to the possibilities of going much further in bodywork than I had ever expected... eventually leading to graduate school. He continues to challenge all of us to learn much more, understand much more, and create much more than we ever thought possible. This class promises to be a worthy experience for all hands-on practitioners and a stretch for all modalities. Come and join us!

CONNECTIVE TISSUE - WEB OF STRUCTURE, WEB OF CH'I
Collagen in its wide variety of structural forms is the most plentifule molecule in the body. "Deep tissue" techniques such as Rolfing or Myofascial Release focus their attention on their own ways of manipulating fascia, and they are generally credited with being the "connective tissue therapies." But every modality of bodywork or movement education has to deal effectively with the nature of this crucial and versatile tissue, and there are in fact many ways of addressing it.
The past twenty years of clinical research has revealed a great deal of new and exciting information about the composition and the properties of connective tissue. Far more than just the tough structural net that holds us together, it is a fluid crystal, a spontaneous generator and semiconductor of electricity, an exquisitely sensitive antenna for a wide variety of energy sources within us and around us, compartmentalized barriers to toxins and disease, and the organizational and energetic scaffolding for all multicellular creatures. It has an intimate molecular and energetic continuity with all cell membranes, cell interiors and cell nuclei. Because of the extensiveness of this continuity, and because the entire meshwork conducts electricity and other forms of energy, connective tissue is currently being researched as a very likely candidate for the medium through which acupuncture and other healing forces flow - truly a primary "organ" of ch'i.
All of this new insight bears directly upon the effectiveness of bodywork and movement reeducation. With an expanded knowledge of these discoveries, you can extend the power and effectiveness of your work into dimensions that most practitioners have not imagined possible. Experiencing this web directly, through tablework and movement thrusts us into the paradox of feeling each of our separately packaged body parts, while at the same time feeling the deep interconnectedness of our whole. And, as a powerful energy generator and an exquisitely sensitive energy antenna, it is a major element of the web of consciousness that binds us together in relationships, societies, and the entire living sphere of Gaia. We can help ourselves, each other, and all of our clients learn to live at home in this web like a spider, and not remain caught in its tangles like a fly.
Participants will be able to:
· Further educate their clients about the neurophysiological sources of their patterns, habits, blocks, and the processes involved in releasing them.
· Quickly identify muscle groups that are creating discomfort or hampering range of movement.
· Focus on the brain and spinal cord roles in movement impairment, rather than identifying the problem as something that resides in muscle tissue itself.
"I think this was one of the best workshops I've ever taken. You set the intention and really allowed us to explore the space with your guidance. I've never seen it happen so easily before."
